We are delighted that the celebrated paralympic champion, Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson, is the Patron of our scheme which is endorsed by Wheelpower and RGK Wheelchairs. Tanni says 'I am delighted that The Lord's Taverners have initiated this scheme to help young disabled people participate in and enjoy wheelchair sport'.

The Sports Wheelchair Sponsorship Scheme is to assist with the purchase of manual chairs and is aimed at those between 8 and 25 years of age. We will generally award funds of up to 50% of the cost of the wheelchair to those who apply through their sports club, association or school and whose application complies with the guidelines for the scheme. The grant will be paid directly to the wheelchair supplier.

We also have a multi-sports wheelchair scheme which enables applicants to obtain a chair at a subsidised cost of £350.

We hope to help and encourage many young wheelchair athletes in  pursuit of their love of sport, whether it be for the sheer enjoyment or the competitive element.

The Sports Wheelchair Sponsorship Scheme for 2009/2010 is now closed, the scheme will re open in October 2010.  Please do not apply between now and October as your application will not be considered.
