CitiCricket

CitiCricket was initially set up by Channel 4 in 2000 under the name of Street Cricket with the objective of giving children in deprived city areas the opportunity to experience the benefits of playing junior cricket.

The Lord’s Taverners began its support of the project in 2002 and the following year took over the funding of the programme. In the summer of 2008 the project was re-launched under the name of CitiCricket to reflect the initiatives’ core objectives.

The Lord’s Taverners has invested over £250,000 since becoming involved with the scheme, which has seen over 10,000 boys and girls benefit from being introduced to junior cricket. Many of these youngsters have gone on to play with local clubs, which have been formed as a result of CitiCricket.

Such is the popularity of the scheme, it is now present in eight counties including Berkshire, Gloucestershire, Nottinghamshire, Warwickshire, Yorkshire, Lancashire, Leicestershire & Rutland and Oxfordshire.

Girls' cricket

The Lady Taverners has sponsored the ECB-run national girls’ indoor and outdoor cricket competitions since 2003, giving 48,000 girls the opportunity to participate in cricket, many for the first time. The Lady Taverners competitions are the country’s only national girls’ cricket competitions, providing a vital pathway for the development of grassroots girls’ cricket.

Street20

Street20 is a super-short form of cricket that is inexpensive, easy to learn and can be played almost anywhere. Street20 sessions are run by local young people and offer regular access to regional and national competitions. Based in or around housing estates seriously affected by gangs and youth crime, Street20 provides a platform for young people to learn about making a positive impact in their own communities.

Hit The Top

Hit The Top is a disability cricket programme that provides club-playing opportunities for young people (under 18) with learning disabilities, physical disabilities and/or visual impairment. Hit The Top supports and encourages mainstream clubs to develop disability sections and gives young people with disabilities the opportunity to play competitive cricket at both local and national levels.

Street Elite

Street Elite, supported by the Berkeley Group, is a unique ‘training for work’ programme which uses shortened forms of cricket, rugby and football to inspire disengaged young people back into education, training or employment. Street Elite is currently active in six London boroughs, involving 4,000 young people living in 12 housing estates. Plans are underway to take the programme nationwide.
