Giving young people, particularly those with special needs, a sporting chance

County Partnerships Programme

The Lord’s Taverners has embarked on a new initiative to form long-term commercial partnerships with a number of County Cricket Clubs.

The aim of the programme is to allow the Charity to forge closer links with all levels of the game – from first class County level to local Clubs and grassroots cricket. By working alongside the County Grounds, it also gives our Regions a platform to run joint fundraising events, host minibus and kit presentations to schools and network within the local community. This raises the profile of the Charity and allows access to a wider audience.

Essex County Cricket Club was the first to agree a partnership with the Charity, making The Lord’s Taverners its ‘Official Recreational Charity Partner’ for the 2009 season. This has now been extended into 2010.

Kent County Cricket Club and Somerset Cricket Club have also agreed to form a similar partnership, launching in April 2010 before the start of the season. With Taunton being the home of England women's cricket, the Somerset partnership will have a specific focus on girl’s cricket.

Hampshire, Lancashire, Surrey and Warwickshire have all expressed an interest to develop stronger links with The Lord’s Taverners.

Essex CCC Partnership – 2009 season summary

The first of its kind, The Lord’s Taverners partnership with Essex CCC has been a huge success and helped raise over £2,000 for the Region.

A programme of activities across the year was implemented to allow the charity to raise its profile throughout Essex, East London and East Anglia. Some of the activities included:

  • Local and regional radio and press promotions
  • The Lord’s Taverners perimeter board branding around the Ford County Ground ground
  • Wine tasting event with Rickety Bridge Winery, the Official Wine Partner to The Lord’s Taverners
  • Bucket collections at a number of games
  • Player appearances

Next season promises to be even bigger and better with a charity fun day and celebrity cricket match planned at the Ford County Ground in Chelmsford. David East, Chief Executive of Essex CCC, said: “We have thoroughly enjoyed working with The Lord’s Taverners Essex Region to support and help raise funds for such a worthy cause.”

Les Rowland, Chairman of The Lord’s Taverners Essex Region, said: “Having access to such a fabulous facility in the Region has allowed us to raise the profile of the Charity to a new audience – a great partnership that is destined to grow.”
