Following on from last year’s successful match, we return to the picturesque village ground on the edge of the Cotswolds near Stonehouse. At Lunch our President entertained an audience of corporate guests and players before the T20 match.

The strong Taverners team included, Chris Tarrant, Neal Redford, Neil Burns, Miles Harrison, Mike Smith. Giouvanni Gale and Jake Flower both of GCCC. James Simpson-Daniel, Darren O’Leary and Nick Wood of Gloucester RFC faced an equally strong Gloucestershire Legends team included, Mark Alleyne, Simon Hinks, Chris White, Mark Gerrard, Andy Brassington, Mike Tredgett, Gary Sainbury, Charlie Dale and Nick Trainor.

The Taverners batted first, Neil Radford and the talented Gloucestershire youngest put on 81 runs before Radford was caught and shortly after Gale was bowled for 41. Nick Wood added 14 and Neil Burns 18. The final two batsman, James Simpson-Daniel and Miles Harrison scored 12 between them which took the Taverner score to 141 for 4 at the end of the 20 overs.

The Legends opened with Simon Hicks and Chris White. Chris White was bowled early by Gale for 12 and Hicks was caught off the bowling of Smith of 19, at 35 for 2 Legends were on the back foot. Mark Gerrard and Mark Alleyne came together and Alleyne took charge scoring 61 from 44 deliveries which changed the face of the game. Garrard and Barringron added 5 runs apiece. Andy Stovald was then dramatically run out for 3 by Chris Tarrant which swung the match back in favour of the Taverners. The tail didn’t wag hard enough and with Gary Sainbury scored 1 and Charlie Dale with 2, the Legends we 4 runs short, a win for the Taverners.

Mike Tindall spent an enjoyable day at the ground as a non player. As we did last year, the local bank’s corporate guests decided to bowl a charity over at Mike Tindall. Every run scored from the six balls, they would donate £ 5.00 per run. The first two balls disappeared over the marquee for six and the third for four. The charity end up over £100 richer at the end of the over – big thanks to Mike and the Bank.

A big thank you must go to John Duncan who was MC also umpires and scores.

Mike Tredgett
