The Lord's Taverners XI v Warwick School Warwickshire

Match Report

Warwick School, Warwickshire

The first ever Lord’s Taverners match held at Warwick School proved a great success for the charity. Firstly we raised in excess of £8,000 and the Lord’s Taverners XI secured one of their easier wins this season.

The LT team consisted mainly of  cricketers both past & present which was always going to be tough opposition for the school Old Boys XI captained by Neil Smith

The LT batted first with Ian Salisbury scoring 109 out of a total off 199 for 7 in 35 overs. The only other batsmen to make double figures were Jason Ratcliffe (25 not out) and Dougie Brown (22). Pick of the bowlers for the Warwickians was Garry Montgomerie (a pro footballer with Grimsby Town) who bowls pretty sharp left arm over.

The Warwickians were always a little behind the clock in their run chase after a tight opening spell by Tim Munton and Charlie Dagnall, though it was the spinners who took the wickets. The slow left arm of Neal Carter and off spin of Jason Ratcliffe, Dominic Ostler & Dougie Brown accounted for wickets all caught bar one stumping. Mike Umaga took 2 fine running catches in the deep as the Warwickians looked for boundaries. Karnal Clubber top scored with 49 in a total of 164-8.

Special thanks to our two main sponsors, Fieldhouse Associates and Wright Hassal Solicitors of Leamington Spa who helped make the day so special.

Celebrities on the day were, Seb Coe, Peter Scudamore, Dave Addleton, Mike Umaga, MJK Smith, Ray Julien, Charlie Dagnall (superb auctioneer!), Tim Munton, Dominic Ostler, Jason Ratcliffe, Neal Radford, Dougie Brown, Ian Salisbury, Neal Carter, Neil Smith & Ian Metcalfe.
