The Lady Taverners is a vital and dedicated fundraising arm of The Lord's Taverners. Founded in 1987, we have since raised over £6 million. The Lord's Taverners is famous for its charitable giving to cricket but we tend to focus our fundraising on specially adapted minibuses and sport and recreation for young people with special needs. We owe our formation to Baroness Thatcher, who set the all-male club a problem! Traditionally, each Prime Minister had been made an honorary member of The Lord's Taverners. As this was not possible, The Lady Taverners was formed with Baroness Thatcher awarded the title of Honorary Lady Taverner No.1. She was joined by 23 others with famous cricket names such as Ann Subba Row, Betty Surridge, Ann Barrington, Rachael Heyhoe Flint, Marjorie Gover, plus show biz personalities including Joan Morecambe and Judith Chalmers.Now over 1000 strong, we continue to draw members from the world of show business, television and the corporate world. Join UsThere are two routes to becoming a Lady Taverner: To become a Member of The Lady Taverners implies a commitment to the Charity and its fundraising at a higher level. Direct entry is open to ladies who have demonstrated their support for The Lady Taverners through sponsorship, contacts, organisations, event prizes etc. By becoming an Associate Member. This is the normal route for those wishing to subscribe to our general aims and objectives. You need just one member to sign your application form. For £40 pa, you then receive all our mailings and are entitled to attend practically all our events. An Associate Member who has been a significant supporter of the charity, either by voluntary work in their region, by finding us sponsors, or by otherwise supporting our fundraising efforts, can then be proposed for full membership.
Over the years The Lady Taverners have built up an extensive regional network throughout the UK, Ireland and Channel Islands. Our tireless regional volunteers organise a full programme of special fundraising events ranging from concerts to gala balls; fashion shows to celebrity golf tournaments, dinners and quizzes. As a member of The Lady Taverners you will need to be proposed and seconded by a Lord's Taverner or a Lady Taverner who has been a member for at least one year.
