Ingatestone Beckons 02-Feb-2012
For our first event of the new year, we decided that a shopping trip would be ideal to cast off our Winter blues. This was how 26 Essex Ladies came to be in the historic town of Ingatestone on 24th January. We had a wonderful time shopping at Philomena and other lovely shops in the High Street.
Then we wound up the trip with lunch at “The Star Inn”, a place of historic interest and ghostly tales.

Santa surprises the Essex Ladies 16-Dec-2011
What makes a Christmas Lunch a memorable occasion? A lovely venue, pleasant company, the traditional dinner , music and carol singing. All these things and a lot more were on hand for our 95 guests at Bartellas, Furze Hill on 12th December.
Carol sheets were ready. Our beautifully attired guests, sang with gusto to “The Twelve Days of Christmas” attempting to outdo those on other tables , one table making weird hand movements, much to the astonishment of one of the waiters. We had 5 fantastic prizes for our auction, skilfully executed by Barry Root – these attracted bids totalling £ 730; lovely gifts for our raffle that raised a magnificent sum of £1197.50. Then lo and behold, who’s this? It’s Richard Witney, now dressed as Father Christmas, with something in his hand. To great applause, he made a magnanimous gesture by presenting Linda with a cheque for £1927 as a donation to The Lady Taverners matching the combined total of the amounts raised earlier.
Once we had all wined and dined, Linda thanked all our guests for their support; her Committee, Richard for the wonderful donation; Melvin for the music; Barry for conducting the auction and last but not least the staff of Bartellas.
We also gave Linda a cheer by thanking her for all the work she undertakes.

Lady Taverners Bazaar Day 14-Nov-2011
It’s Bazaar Time in Essex
One event of particular interest to our members during the festive season is our Christmas bazaar. As previously, it was held in The Pavilion Room, Orsett Hall, that has the perfect setting for such an occasion. Attendance numbers were high on 7th November with 23 stallholders and 127 guests, including Derrin Gill, Director of The Lady Taverners to whom our Chairman extended a warm welcome. A splendid array of goods were on sale to tempt us, gifts for our loved ones, things for the home, fashionable items for ourselves. And no sooner we were spent, a two course meal with wine awaited us. Our thanks go to everyone involved, in one way or another, in ensuring the success of this annual event. A grand sum of £1118 was raised in the raffle; £610 from Tombola run by Heather and Chrissie. Additionally, Joyce was on hand with her Bags-R-Us stall with proceeds going to the charity.

The Lady Taverners Go To Sotheby’s 07-Oct-2011
The Reception area of Sotheby’s was all a buzz on 27th September when 32 of us gathered for a tour of this world- famous Auction House. Accompanied by a tour guide, we were given an interesting talk on its history, the various auctions that take place, where one registers to bid – I hastily add nobody made a move to do so. What, however, got us all excited was learning that members of the public can turn up with “antiques” from home and have these valued free of charge. I reckon that in many Essex homes that night, certain persons rummaged around to see what they could find.
The Tour ended in a salesroom where an auction of contemporary prints was taking place. Thereafter, we were off to Browns in Maddox Street for a 2 course lunch that we thoroughly enjoyed.
Our thanks go to everyone for all the enjoyment we shared and to our special guest, Diana Moran for finding time to come along.

JAZZ AND SUNSHINE AT SUMMER LUNCH 18-Jul-2011
Absolutely fabulous is the only way to describe The Lord's and Lady Taverners Sunday Lunch With Entertainment event at Orsett Hall on 10th July - words uttered by several of our 103 guests.
To begin with, guests were served champagne on arrival. Once they were seated, Linda Bees, chairman of Essex Lady Taverners, welcomed everyone and thanked them for their support.
Leslie Rowland, Chairman of Essex Lord's Taverners, followed this by conducting an Official Presentation of a sports wheelchair to our special guest, 12 year old Ella Collins, who plays tennis in a wheelchair. She has a great future ahead and we are hopeful that the wheelchair will help her get into the England Squad.
After a delicious 3 course meal, with unpredicted warm sunshine outside, guests sat on the lawn in the beautiful garden and were entertained by Bill Freemans’ New Orleans Jazz Band. One of our guests was so enchanted by it all that, to our amazement, she joined the Band and gave a splendid rendition of several tunes from the Jazz era. Others danced away. Yes, we were all carried away by the music, sunshine, surroundings ……and beverage! And if this wasn’t enough, sandwiches and tea were available.
The raffle raised a staggering £1125.
We would like to thank everyone, including the staff of Orsett Hall for the success of this event.

LADY TAVERNERS FASHION SHOW 13-Jun-2011
When it comes to making a decision about what clothes to buy, there’s nothing better than to go to a fashion show. With this is mind and for something different, we booked Orsett Hall for 8th May for a fashion show by Philomena of High Street, Ingatestone.
The event was well supported. While first enjoying a glass of champagne and then afternoon tea, 70 guests feasted their eyes on beautiful, colourful clothes for ladies of all ages and special occasions. The show also included garments contributed by other shops in High Street, Ingatestone. When the show came to an end the race to the fitting room commenced in earnest.
Everyone certainly seemed to be enjoying themselves. Our thanks go to Gloria for offering to do the show for the charity; the models, among them was our Jenni, for working hard for our enjoyment; Vincenzo for the music; Heather for baking 76 delicious cup cakes; the staff at Orsett Hall for coping with all our needs.
The event was a huge success. The Raffle raised £655 for the charity from our many generous supporters.

The Lord’s Taverners arrived in Witham, Essex, on Tuesday 10 May, where former Essex and England star Graham Gooch was on hand to deliver a new minibus to Southview School.

Southview School’s minibus has been made possible thanks to the support of Stanford Coachworks, based in Stanford-Le-Hope. Stanford Coachworks converts standard Ford Transit minibuses to fully-accessible vehicles for The Lord’s Taverners. THE LADY TAVERNERS MINIBUS PRESENTATION AT EPPING FOREST COLLEGE - 18TH NOVEMBER 2010 23-Nov-2010
Thursday the 18th November was a very special day for the staff and children of Epping Forest College and for members of the Hammond family. It was the day that a minibus, awarded to Joyce and Peter Hammond for their support to our charity, was presented to the college in the name and in memory of their grandson, Nicholas White.
Amongst those attending on this auspicious occasion were our President Emeritus, Judith Chalmers OBE, Chairman, Sally Surridge, Linda Bees with members from her Committee of The Lady Taverners Essex Region and Les Rowland, Chairman of the Lord’s in Essex.
The arrival of the minibus means a great deal to the college. In her opening speech the Principal, Jeannie Wright, said it was the culmination of 4 years of effort from staff and parents to raise money towards the cost. The minibus will make life at the college a lot easier in transporting the children with learning disabilities to their sports activities etc. She expressed thanks to our Charity and to Joyce and Peter for making their dream possible. Judith responded on the Charity’s behalf and drew laughter from the children with her witty comments.
We were then given a guided tour of the college by Kathryn Lowe, the Section Leader. We marvelled at the state of the art facilities of the building that had been built about 3 years ago in its new location. After a lovely buffet, we bade our farewells and departed content in the knowledge that our charity had made a lot of people very happy.

THE LADY TAVERNERS CHRISTMAS BAZAAR - 1ST NOVEMBER 2010 08-Nov-2010
Our Christmas Bazaar was held in the spacious Pavilion Room at Orsett Hall Hotel on 1st November. As early as 8.30 am, there was already a hive of activity with stallholders carrying their wares and preparing their display tables. From 11.00 am, members and guests were off to view the lovely items on sale snapping up wonderful bargains for the Christmas season. Stylish clothes and items for the home proved irresistible to others.
A couple of hours later and a lot lighter in our pockets, our 116 guests sat down to a two course lunch with wine followed by tea or coffee.
As usual, this event proved to be a great success as a fundraiser. This could not have been achieved without the consistent generosity of all who attended. We would therefore like to express our thanks to our long-time supporters for raising £1045 in the raffle and to the anonymous Donor for the 4 tickets for “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire” that fetched £500. Our Tombola stall run by Heather and Chrissie raised £635; Joyce’s hand –made bags etc have raised £200 to date. Last but not least, stallholders donated 10% of the profits made on the day to the Charity.
