THE LADY TAVERNERS SPRING LUNCH & SPIRIT OF SPORT AWARDS - 13TH MAY 2010
03-Jun-2010
From the moment that guests arrived at the Europa Hotel for the drinks reception the atmosphere was electric as everyone was in anticipation of a really special event and nobody was disappointed. The President of Ireland Mary McAleese was to be our guest of Honour and from her arrival at the VIP reception when she met the committee and several special guests we knew this was going to be something so different. The warmth and sincerity the President had shown in that room was repeated again when she addressed all present at the lunch.
President McAleese had certainly done her research into the Lady Taverners and the work we do. She spoke of the projects we have accomplished and before presenting the ‘Spirit of Sport Awards’ and during a remarkable speech she said...to quote ,
‘The Lady Taverners help to address all potential obstacles these young people have and make sure all the gaps are filled ...opening them up in participation in all sorts of sports so that they can travel on a journey of their own to their fullest potential’.
Following the presentation of the Awards a much appreciated and delicious lunch was served.
Jean Ratcliff spoke about how the Awards came into being in Northern Ireland and how she had invited Betty Scott as a guest to the first presentation event held in the South of England. Betty then introduced it in Northern Ireland together with Disability Sport NI.
Finally the Guest Speaker...Marie Jones internationally known Northern Ireland Playwrite had every one falling off their seats with stories of her life and exceptional success in the West End, Broadway and in fact world wide.
The NI. Region can say this event...full of some tears and very much laughter was a great success once again

LADY TAVERNERS SPRING LUNCH & SPIRIT OF SPORT AWARDS - MAY 15TH 2009
30-Sep-2009
Friday May 15th was another successful Spring Lunch for The Lady Taverners and their guests. The atmosphere was one of happiness and expectation, and the room looked amazing thanks to our hard working girls.
The day began with compere Lord’s Taverners, Colin Barkley, who introduced our Northern Ireland President. Popular Radio Presenter, Candy Devine, was there to welcome the special guests, as well as Lady Taverners Director, Derrin Gill and President, Rachael Heyhoe-Flint.
Following an excellent lunch the proceedings began with Northern Ireland Regional Chairman Betty Scott introducing Rachael, who presented the Spirit of Sports Awards. This is always a happy, but tear jerking part of the event, bringing home not only the achievements of these young people but what we’re all about as a charity. As always, Rachael brought her own special wit to the proceedings which enlightened the feeling of all present for the occasion and brought a lot of laughter to one and all.
More laughter with Guest Speaker Ruth Madoc who spoke of her many experiences throughout her most interesting and amazing career in show business.
Another great social success for the Northern Ireland Region!
