THE LADY TAVERNERS MINIBUS PRESENTATION AT SLATED ROW SCHOOL - 4TH FEBRUARY 2011 08-Feb-2011
YOUNGSTERS at Slated Row School will have better access to city amenities after receiving a new minibus from Lord’s Taverners last week.
Former England fast bowler, Devon Malcolm, attended a presentation at the Wolverton based school on Friday when the minibus was handed over.
Fundraising efforts by the Lord’s Taverners, the official charity of recreational cricket, have resulted in the school benefiting from the 16-seat minibus.
The students at the school, which caters for 170 pupils aged 4-19 with physical and learning difficulties, will now enjoy more freedom with the mobility provided by the £48,000 minibus.
The minibus was purchased thanks to the fundraising efforts of long-term Lord’s Taverners supporters, Geoff and Fiona Squire.
Additional funds were raised by the Lady Taverners with a ‘build a bus’ auction.
Matthew Patten, chief executive of The Lord’s Taverners, said: “We believe that sport and recreation are essential for all young people, particularly those with special needs.
“This minibus will help the Slated Row pupils get out and enjoy new places and experiences.
“We are proud to support the staff, parents and young people of Slated Row School.”
The Lord’s Taverners will donate nearly £3 million this year to help give young people a sporting chance and they donate nearly one minibus every 10 days to organisations such as Slated Row School.
