Newport and Walmley crowned Lady Taverners T20 Champions
The national finals of The Lady Taverners outdoor T20 competitions came to a close last week (8 and 15 September) where Newport CC and Walmley CC were crowned national champions.
The under 13 finals, which took place at Challow & Childrey CC, saw some low scoring affairs when it got to the last 4. Newport cruised to a 10 wicket win against Walmley chasing just 71 while Ealing booked their place in the final after seeing off the challenge of Westbury.
Newport CC continued their good form in the final, dismissing Ealing for just 49 in their 11 overs, a score which they chased down with ease to take home the trophy.
Newport CC and Walmley CC also featured in the under 15 national finals, held at Leamington CC, but this time they avoided each other at the semi-final stage. Walmley CC took on Banbury in the first T20 semi-final and secured a comfortable entry in to the final by chasing down a below par score of 83 in 10 overs with 9 wickets to spare.
The second semi-final was contested by Newport CC and Ansty CC. Newport posted a daunting 155-4 in their allotted 20 overs and Ansty CC were never in the hunt in reply, finishing on 83-7.
For Walmley CC, the final took similar shape to the semi-final with Newport batting first scoring 68-7 only for Walmley to surpass the target in 10 overs, again only 1 wicket down.
Congratulations to Newport and Walmley on their national titles.
