An Evening of Entertainment with the Norfolk Taverners
Despite much well deserved criticism for choosing a date for a Taverners Event on the second day of a Lord’s Test Match; Norfolk Regions Evening of Entertainment proved to be an outstanding success. We made a profit in excess of £2000 which we are delighted with. 100 revelers, including former East Anglia Chairman Bob Young and Chairman of Norfolk Lady Taverners Glynis Billett, had a wonderful evening rocking and swooning (only the girls were swooning) to Elvis and The BlueSueders. Richard Wright ran a Heads and Tales session and quickly had a male and female finalist with the male taking the prize. This was followed by a raffle with a range of excellent prizes.
Top of The Bill was Norfolk’s Top All Round Entertainer Olly Day who did a range of humour, clever magic and some delightful singing. Olly co-opted Taverner Richard Wright as his ventriloquist dummy and this partnership proved to be hilarious. He then provided even more fun with a lady from the audience called Sarah, who played her part delightfully; so effective was this that some in the audience suspected the volunteers were pre-rehearsed, but we can confirm no one was more surprised than them! Olly finished his act with a rousing version of the Dean Martin classic-“That’s Amore” which had everyone swaying and joining in with the singing.
Taverner Mark Fitch and his 5 piece support band made up Elvis and The BlueSueders. They sang a wide range of Elvis classics and the floor was full of dancers for the rock songs and the ballads. The band was so popular with the crowd that they were persuaded to do several encores, and finally the evening finished with a disco.
Magic!! Those Taverners preferring the cricket missed out on a fantastic evening of fun.
