London Marathon team on track to beat £100k target

Radio and TV presenter Greg James lined up alongside fellow celebrity runners Jenson Button and Chris Evans at the 2015 Virgin Money London Marathon start line hoping to raise £10,000 for the Lord’s Taverners.

But while Greg was centre of attention for the pre-race BBC coverage – not to mention his army of Radio 1 listeners and social media fans – it was fellow Team Tavs runner Subhashis ‘Baz’ Basu who quietly went about completing his 90th marathon, breaking a world record in the process.

Having experienced at first-hand the difference the Lord’s Taverners makes to the lives of young people – Baz came through a difficult time in his teenage years thanks to one of our cricket programmes – he achieved his goal of breaking the Guinness world record for the quickest race dressed in full cricket gear by nearly a full hour, completing the race in 3:20:46.

Greg and Baz were part of a 30-strong marathon team led once again by captain Rob Ditcham for the fifth consecutive year in his 10th consecutive London Marathon for the Lord’s Taverners. Under Rob’s stewardship the team is on track to break its £100,000 fundraising target in style, with funds still being raised until the end of July.
