Lord’s Taverners Newmarket Race day
Lord’s Taverners Newmarket Race day. July 11 2015
More race goers than ever before packed the marquee at the annual East Anglia Region Lord’s Taverners Race Day at Newmarket. Lord’s from the region were joined for lunch and racing by Lord’s and Lady Taverners from other regions and many other guests. We had a wonderful and colourful crowd of over 200 guests, from old friends who come every year, to new friends who we hope will and from office outings to grandmother’s birthday treat.
Darley Cup day was bright and sunny and with our usual place right beside the finishing post everyone poured out of the marquee to line the track and cheer the horses over the line. Whether guests were big winners (a few) or not such big winners (many), everyone seemed to much enjoy their day, many leaving with wonderful prizes from the silent auction and raffle.
Bob Champion (Grand National winner and champion jockey) and Mark Johnston (horse trainer) came to give us the benefit of their experience and Sir Michael Stoute, (the Queen’s trainer and Taverner), popped in to say hello. Essex Racing Club once again very generously sponsored the sweepstake. Emails flooded in after the event asking about next year - already booked for 9th July 2016.
Lots of work and the generosity of many people goes into making this a successful event every year, thank you to them all.
