Wolverhampton and North Wales Knights claim gold at Junior League Finals 2017
The University of Worcester Arena was once again home to the Lord’s Taverners Junior League Wheelchair Basketball Finals over the weekend, welcoming young players from across the country in their bid for the prestigious bronze, silver and gold titles.
Competing in two age categories (U19 & U15) sixteen teams delivered outstanding wheelchair basketball games.
In the U19’s age category Wolverhampton reclaimed the gold medal in a dramatic and closely fought match against Tornado Kings, narrowly clinching the win with just five points for a 26-21 final score.
The Tornado Kings U19 team brought home the silver winning two of their three games during the finals. Whilst MavKings faced Sheffield Steelers in the bronze medal match, which concluded in a close three-point game that saw Mavkings win the bronze U19 title 25-22.
The standard of play by the U15 group was equally as skilled and competitive, with the North Wales Knights claiming their first gold medal at a Lord’s Taverners Junior League Finals. The gold medal game saw North Wales Knights play 2015/16 bronze medallists RGK Tees Valley Titans and win the game 24-16.
RGK Tees Valley Titans improved on their 2015/16 medal by placing silver.
The Bronze Medal U15 game saw London Allstars play CWBA in an exceptionally close fought game with just two points difference at the final whistle. The London Allstars won the game and the bronze medal with a closing score of 20-18.
