New minibus for Caerphilly youngsters

We were in Caerphilly, Wales, on 7 July to present pupils at Trinity Fields School in Caerphilly (Wales) with a new Lord’s Taverners wheelchair accessible minibus.

Trinity Fields is the only special school in Caerphilly and has capacity for 150 young people aged 3-19. The school caters for pupils with a wide range of special educational needs (SEN) including profound and multiple learning difficulties, autistic spectrum disorder, severe learning difficulties, physical and medical needs, and multi-sensory impairments.

The new 16-seat wheelchair accessible minibus will be central to providing pupils with daily opportunities to learn. As well as being used for educational visits the minibus will also be used to transport pupils to swimming and other sporting activities, work experience plus the many facilities on offer in the local community.

This minibus has been made possible thanks to the fundraising efforts of welsh mining and local community investment company, Miller Argent, who raised £17,000 towards the funding of the new vehicle.

Headteacher at Trinity Fields School, Ian Elliott MBE, said: “On behalf of the pupils, staff and governors we are delighted to receive our brand new Lord’s Taverners minibus. We are very grateful to the Lord’s Taverners and to our sponsor Miller Argent for making our dream possible. We look forward to using the bus to support pupils’ learning. Our pupils love their bright new green bus and are all ready for their first ride in it!”

Neil Brown, Managing Director of Miller Argent said: “It is a privilege for Miller Argent to be supporting the Trinity Fields School, and the fantastic work they do within the Caerphilly Borough. We hope that this new minibus will help the school and significantly benefit its students. We wish the school every success for the future.”

Ed Meggitt, Chairman of the Lord’s Taverners Wales region, said: “It is a privilege to be able to present the pupils at Trinity Fields School and Resource Centre with a special minibus. At Lord’s Taverners we believe it is important that everyone should be able to enjoy sports and recreations and the new minibus will help the pupils do this. We are proud to support the staff and young pupils of Trinity Fields School and Resource Centre.”
