Preview: Antiguan Knights, Eve of Test Dinner
On Wednesday of next week Edgbaston will play host not only to the first day/night Test Match to take place in England, but also to one of the Lord’s Taverners marquee events of the Summer. Sir Viv Richards, Sir Richie Richardson, Sir Curtly Ambrose and Sir Andy Roberts will be our guests of honour for the dinner, on the eve of the first test match in the series between England and the West Indies. Sky Sports’ Pete Graves will be conducting interviews with each of these legends of the game, and giving guests an insight into the lives and careers of some of the game’s greatest ever players.
Earlier in the day, the Antiguan Knights will also be attending a Wicketz session at the Edgbaston Foundation Sports Ground, giving young kids from disadvantaged backgrounds a chance to pick up some tips and experience. The Wicketz programme has been one of the Lord’s Taverners real success stories this past 12 months, and its rapid expansion means the programme will be delivered in 11 of the most deprived areas of the UK, allowing for young people to have a chance not only to take up cricket, but to have the opportunity to take part in workshops which promote positive change and unity within the community.
Other highlights from the evening’s dinner will be the auction, on this occasion hosted by IPL auctioneer Richard Madley, where top prizes include a trip to Antigua and a private dinner with the Antiguan Knights, a trip round the Sky Sports studio on the day of a Soccer Saturday, and a trip to Monaco, staying in a luxury apartment with VIP passes for the Grand Prix for up to 30 people.
