Brian Rix CBE 1970


An actor who became synonymous with the area of Farce. He has held many senior positions in theatre, comedy and drama organisations and latterly devoted his life to fundraising for the disabled.

Victor Silvester OBE 1972


Victor’s life was music and dancing. He studied at the Trinity College of Music and The London College of Music and won the world dancing championships with Phyllis Clark in 1922. He later went on to make over 6500 radio and TV broadcasts with the Victor Silvester Orchestra and 'The BBC Dancing Club'. His record sales were well in excess of 75 million. Like many of his peers he had a spell in the army and it was during this time that his services later earned him the Italian Bronze Medal for Valour.

Jimmy Edwards DFC MA 1973


Jimmy was a comedian and actor whose distinguishing feature was a huge handlebar moustache. He is probably best known for his role as Professor Jimmy Edwards in the late 1950s TV series 'Wacko'. During the Second World War he served as a Flight Lieutenant in the Royal Air Force and was awarded the DFC (Distinguished Flying Cross).

Alf Gover 1974


Alf Gover was a cricketer who played for Surrey and England. He had a first class career that lasted for 20 years and retired at the age of 40. In that time he took 1,555 wickets at an average of 23.63. On eight occasions he took 100 wickets in a season and on two occasions he took 200 wickets in a season. He played four times for England. In his later years Alf was best known for the successful cricket schol which he founded in South London and which he ran with his wife and family.

HRH The Prince of Wales KG 1975 - 76


HRH The Prince of Wales was the second member of the Royal Family to become President of The Lord's Taverners, following in his father's footsteps.

Eric Morecambe OBE 1977 - 79


Eric was one half of the famous comedic duo of Morecambe and Wise, one of the most popular British comedy programmes of all time. In 1999 Eric was voted 'Comedian of the Century'.
