Leslie Crowther CBE 1991-92


At the age of 11 he won a piano scholarship to The Royal Academy of Music, however Leslie Crowther’s passion was always the stage and screen. He developed into an actor, stand up comedian and game show host who fronted 'The Price is Right' and 'Crackerjack'. Leslie was also well known for advertising Stork Margarine.

HRH Prince Edward CVO 1993-94


HRH Prince Edward was the third member of The Royal Family to have been the President of The Lord's Taverners.

The Lord Cowdrey of Tonbridge CBE 1995-97


The former Kent and England Captain played 114 times for his country, scoring 7624 runs at an average of 44.06. He scored 22 centuries for England and 107 overall. His first class career with Kent lasted for 26 years, having become the youngest player ever to be capped by them at the age of 17. He is best remember for two reasons, coming out to bat to save the Lord’s Test against the West Indies wearing a plastercast, after having his arm broken by Wes Hall and being flown out to Australia in 1974 at the age of 42 to face Lillee and Thompson in their prime. Prior to his role as President of The Lord's Taverners, Lord Cowdrey was Chairman of the International Cricket Council between 1989 - 1993.

Nicholas Parsons 1999-99


Nicholas is an actor and broadcaster best known for hosting Independent Television's 'Sale of the Century' and, in recent years, for compering BBC Radio's popular show ‘Just a Minute’. A y good rugby player in his younger days he played in an East v West of Scotland trial game whilst at Edinburgh University. As a child Nicholas went to the same school as Margaret Thatcher. In 1991 St Andrews University Made him an honorary Doctor of Law.

Robert Powell 2001-02


An actor who started his acting career whilst attending Manchester University. He is probably best remembered for his portrayal of Jesus in the US TV miniseries 'Jesus of Nazareth' and for his partnership with Jasper Carrot in 'The Detectives'.  Robert Powell is currently acting in popular BBC hospital drama Holby City.

Richard Stilgoe OBE DL 2003-2004


Richard is a true allrounder having enjoyed a long and successful career as a television presenter, entertainer, songwriter and wit. He has appeared in many television programmes including ‘A Class By Himself’, ‘Nationwide’, ‘That's Life’, ‘Stilgoe's Around’ and ‘Countdown’. Richard is an extremely talented musician, as well as being able to sing opera he can play 14 instruments. During the 60s he played the piano in a beat group called Tony Snow and the Blizzards. In the 80s he collaborated with Andrew Lloyd Webber and wrote the lyrics for the 1984 hit musical ‘Starlight Express’ as well as contributing additional lyrics to ‘Cats’ and ‘The Phantom of the Opera’. In 1985, he joined Peter Skellern for ‘Stilgoe And Skellern Stompin' At The Savoy’, a show in aid of The Lords Taverners. This led to the two entertainers working together on several successful tours, and in their two-man show, ‘Who Plays Wins’, which was a hit in the West End and New York. A man of many talents, Richard is also well known for his ability to create and disseminate anagrams.

Mike Gatting OBE 2004-2007


The former Middlesex and England Captain played 79 Tests and 92 One-Day Internationals for his country, scoring 4,409 Test runs at an average of 35.55. He Captained England on their victorious tour to Australia in 1986-87, winning The Ashes, Perth Challenge and World Series Cup.  Mike played for Middlesex from 1975 - 1998 in which time he Captained Middlesex to the County Championship in 1990 and 1993 and he scored 33,456 First Class runs at an average of 50.385.  He remained with Middlesex as County Coach until the end of the 2000 season.  Mike and Graeme Fowler set the record in Madras in 1984-85 as the only two batsmen ever to score double centuries in the same innings in a Test.

Bill Tidy MBE 2007-2009


Phenomenally talented and highly respected Author, Writer, TV and Radio Presenter and hugely popular After Dinner Speaker, Britain's best loved cartoonist, Bill Tidy is well known for the popular strips such as ‘The Fosdyke Saga' (Daily  Mirror)  1971 - 1985  and ‘The Cloggies'  (Private Eye) 1967 – 1981 as well as numerous others.  His unique ability to draw at lightening speed has entertained audiences for the past 45 years and as well as clocking up 100's of appearances on programmes such as C4's Countdown and BBC Radio's  ‘I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue' he continues to contribute to Private Eye and entertain corporate audiences around the world.
