Taverners show appreciation for Brian Johnston at Macquarie Test Match Dinner
As England and South Africa prepared for the much anticipated Test Series between the world’s top two sides, over 350 guests attended a wonderful evening at The Grosvenor House for The Macquarie Test Match Dinner.
The evening was hosted by The Lord’s Taverners President Chris Cowdrey and before dinner was served, guests showed their appreciation for the late Brian Johnston – ‘Johnners’, and the recently retired Mark Boucher. Scottish actor, Gordon Kennedy marked the start of the dinner with his grace, before guests were not only treated to a fantastic menu, but Mike Gatting’s ‘A Question of Sport’.
Our guest speakers delivered sporting anecdotes from their cricketing experiences, including Jonathan Agnew reliving the famous ‘legover’ clip from the 1991 Test Match Special broadcast, Devon Malcolm’s full insight into his famous bowling spell of 9/57 against South Africa in 1994 whilst Mike Proctor shed light on his experiences of South Africa’s banishment from world cricket in the 1970s and 1980s.
Our thanks go to our sponsor for the evening, Macquarie, and to all those who supported the evening and were able to make it such a success.
