National glory for J&G Meakin and North Devon
Inspired by an exciting Ashes summer, girls from across the country travelled to Grantham CC, Lincolnshire, for the national finals of the U13 and U15 Lady Taverners Girls National T20 competitions.
The under 13 finals were rain affected so the delayed start meant that all matches were reduced to 12 overs-a-side. This resulted in a number of low scoring affairs with both semi-finals being won by large margins as Corbridge and J&G Meakin chased down their respective totals without losing a wicket.
In the final, J&G Meakin posted a competitive 97-2 in their 12 overs and were brilliant with the ball to dismiss Corbridge for just 39 and win the national title. J&G Meakin proved to be the team of the day but the best individual performance came from Wanstead’s Zara Rose who smashed a brutal 85 from 31 balls to help them post a mammoth 151 in their 12 overs and win the 3rd/4th place play-off.
(All matches were 12 overs a side due to weather)
Corbridge 55-0 beat Corsham 54-6 by 7 wickets
J&G Meakin 69-0 beat Wanstead & Snaresbrook 65-6 by 7 wickets
Wanstead & Snaresbrook 151 all out (Zara Rose 85 from 31 balls) beat Corsham 39 all out by 113 runs
J&G Meakin 97-2 beat Corbridge 39 all out by 58 runs
Getting runs on the board seemed to be the order of the day in the U15 finals as all games apart from the final were won by the team batting first. Scoreboard pressure from Wrenthorpe and North Devon Tarka proved too much for Cuckfield and Narborough & Littlethorpe who couldn’t chase totals of 181 and 133 respectively.
The final however was won by the team chasing. Wrenthorpe set North Devon Tarka 107 to win from their 20 overs and that wasn’t enough as North Devon cruised to a comfortable 8 wicket win with the man of the match performance coming from Rose Ball, who recorded tournament winning figures of 4-6 from her 5 overs.
Wrenthorpe 181-6 (Evie Woodhead 95) beat Cuckfield 45 all out by 136 runs
North Devon Tarka 133-3 (Daisy Meadowcroft 52) beat Narborough & Littlethorpe 46 all out by 87 runs
N&LCC 104-5 (Rachael Chipman 55) beat Cuckfield 91 all out by 13 runs
North Devon Tarka 107-2 (Carmen Clements 54) beat Wrenthorpe 106-6 (Rose Ball 4-6) by 5 wickets
