Millfield and Horizon clinch Lady Taverners Girls Indoor cricket titles
After a national tournament competition involving more than 1,800 teams, this week saw the finals of the Lady Taverners Girls U13s and U15s Girls indoor cricket finals take place at Lord’s where Millfield Prep and Horizon Community College clinched the respective titles.
At the U13 finals, Millfield Prep went through the day without registering a single defeat with wins over runners-up Packwood Haugh, Warden Park School, St Ivo and the Macmillan Academy before being presented with the trophy by England Women’s wicket-keeper batsman, Amy Jones, former England captain, Mike Gatting and Lady Taverners Chairman Carole Garner.
The following day it was the turn of the U15 finalists to take centre stage at the Home of Cricket and with England captain Alastair Cook watching on while enjoying a net session with Mark Ramprakash ahead of the first Test Match of the summer, Horizon managed to clinch the U15 title after a hard fought days play.
The title went down to the final round of matches and ended up with three teams level in first place but Horizon (404) went through on runs scored ahead of Queen Elizabeth’s (374) and Felsted (315). Moreton Hall School and Leicester Grammar School were also in action.
The U15s received their trophies from England cricketer, Ebony Rainford-Brent and Lady Taverner, Chrissie Walker-Hebborn.
