Carol Concert with the Stars a smash hit!
Over 300 people were at St. Marylebone Parish Church on Monday night for a fantastic carol concert, with stars of music and of the screen helping get everyone in the festive spirit.
The event was being recorded by Classic FM, and will be broadcast in full next Monday (18 December) between 8pm and 10pm. Classic FM presenter Anne-Marie Minhall welcomed the gathered crowd before reading the Christmas classic 'Twas the night before Christmas.
Lady Taverners President and award-winning soprano, Lesley Garrett wowed the crowd with renditions of Pretty Little Star and Little Drummer Boy, and the wonderful church choir sang several carols and festive hymns. The audience was also treated to Christmas poems and humorous readings from Lord Digby Jones, Patricia Hodge, Selina Cadell, James Smith and Sir Richard Stilgoe.
A selection of everyone’s favourite Christmas carols were sung with gusto by the crowd, including Once in Royal David’s City and Hark! The Herald Angels Sing and fantastic version of The Holly and the Ivy sung in canon and directed by Nicholas Cleobury and Sir Richard Stilgoe.
Mince pies were had at the conclusion of the concert as people left in high spirits to brave a bitterly cold evening in the capital.
