Brilliant Boccia

The Lord's Taverners 2018 National Boccia Finals delivered a fantastic showcase for the sport at Hertfordshire Sports Village last week (20 April), as Angmering and Richmond won the physical disability (PD) and pan disability competitions respectively.

Angmering School (West Sussex) successfully retained their physical disability title after winning every match on the day. They won both their games in group B before a narrow 5-3 victory against Cleeve Park (Kent) saw them progress to the final, and there would be no stopping them there either as they defeated Wilson Stuart School (Birmingham) 11-0 to ensure they lifted the trophy.

Richmond Upon Thames took a very similar route to Angmering to the national final in the pan disability tournament. Successfully negotiating the group stages with three wins out of three, they moved on to a semi final to take on Broadlands Hall (Suffolk) where they won a thrilling encounter 4-2. Orchard School awaited them in the finale and it proved to be a close and tense match with Richmond eventually coming out of it as winners, 3-2.

A fantastic day all round in both competitions was a fitting finish to another brilliant boccia tournament. Nearly 3,000 young people took part throughout the competition which included 50 county and regional heats, before the final itself.

Congratulations to everyone who took part and the results from every game can be found using the links below:
