Quiz Night at Theydon Bois Village Hall
The Quiz Night, held on 20 January was tremendous fun. Great venue – the splendid contemporary Village Hall in the centre of Theydon Bois. An event of this kind can be quite time consuming to arrange. However the effort, preparation and organisation paid off in the end. All went like clockwork. For instance, we even had a number of members and friends arriving early to help place tables in position for 74 guests, all determined that their team would be declared the winners.
There were 10 rounds of questions and, throughout the evening, guests whispered to each other what they thought were the correct answers and looked over their shoulders cautiously every now and then to ensure no one had overheard! In addition there was a Marathon Round with quirky clues testing our knowledge on food.
Half-way through the Quiz , we had a break during which we tucked into our chicken, fish, or veggie burger all pre-ordered and served with chunky chips. Then it was time to put our thinking caps on again in a final attempt to score more marks. Laughter and merriment prevailed as the questions flowed and the ambience seemed brighter all around for some reason. And finally, the moment arrived when the Quiz Master announced the Winning team – the table consisting of parents of former pupils of William Torbitt School in Newbury Park. They were each presented with a bottle of wine and we all cheered and clapped.
To sum up, everyone enjoyed themselves, indeed it was a very jolly lot that stepped out into the cold, frosty and starry night and made their way home.
The Committee wish to thank Julie, Stella, Kevin and Christine for running the quiz and all those who participated and gave support, in particular Teresa Stevens, who organised it.
Roll on the next one.
