Declan
Since attending the Newcastle Super 1s Hub, Declan has flourished within cricket and his personal life. His achievements in the Scouts speak volumes for his progress, and he won a Newcastle Town Award for his volunteering there.
My name is Declan. I am 17 years of age and attend college, where my main subjects are Maths, English, ICT and Sports and Sports Leadership. I am working to improve my Maths and English so that I can move to a different college to study Music Production.
I love music, and I would like to become a DJ when I am older. I have a lot of DJ equipment in my room, and I remix songs and mashups. I have DJ’d on a few occasions, and my college want me to provide the music for their events.
I am also a young leader with my local Scouts group, and every Wednesday I help lead a group of Squirrels and a group of Beavers. This can be quite challenging at times!
I got into cricket when Steve Lightfoot, our coach and Disability Officer, visited our school and I joined in with playing in an outdoor cricket session. I loved it and have played Super 1s, and now I have progressed to Super 9s cricket; I have also helped Steve with table cricket at other schools.
The change that I would like to help with most is to persuade more young people to play cricket, especially girls, as there are not enough girls playing.
