Sir Cliff rolls back the years to help raise £100,000 for the Taverners
The Dorchester Hotel played host to one of The Lady Taverners favourite annual events; Judith Chalmers Tribute Lunch. This year the lunch celebrated the fantastic career of Sir Cliff Richard and the event drew a crowd of fans outside the hotel to await his arrival on Friday 9 November.
After a Champagne reception guests were treated to a variety of celebrity tributes for Sir Cliff. Former Radio 1 DJ Mike Read started proceedings followed by TV and radio presenter Gloria Hunniford, actor Anthony Andrews and Bill Latham who went on to interview two of Sir Cliff’s sisters for their very own special tributes. There were also a number of written tributes from Christopher Biggins, Mary Berry and Sir Tim Rice, while video messages were given by Hank Marvin, Olivia Newton John and Paul O’Grady.
Following the glowing tributes, Sir Cliff finally took centre stage and performed some of his hits which got the crowd to their feet to dance. Some of the hits he performed on the day included; Move it (his first single), Livin’ Doll and Miss You Nights- beautifully sung a cappella.
Thanks goes to our fabulous auctioneer Neil Durden-Smith and the generosity of the crowd who, on the day, helped raise an amazing £100,000. The money will be going towards helping disadvantaged and disabled children all across the UK and will be sure to ‘raise more than just a smile’.
A special note of thanks must go to our headline sponsors Raymond & Christel Stoner, our diamond supporter Seabourn, our gold supporters Carol and Len Hatton and our Champagne sponsor imagine Cruising. We are very grateful to them all.
