Jubilation at the OXO2
The Lady Taverners celebrated the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee weekend in style with a lunch at the OXO2 hosted by president Angela Rippon. The 300 guests had arguably the best view in London to watch the Queen’s flotilla which saw 1,000 boats parade down the River Thames. Even the rain could not dampen spirits and Union Jack flags filled the air to wave the boats along.
After a sparkling reception a splendid three-course lunch was served and guests were entertained throughout by ‘The Sirens’ who performed hit songs from each of the decades the Queen has reigned. The momentous occasion united everyone with rousing renditions of ‘God save the Queen’ and ‘Land of Hope and Glory’ and the singing continued long after the boats had sailed by.
The event was kindly sponsored by John Legge and supported by Joyce and Peter Hammond. It raised an amazing £22,000. A fantastic result which will help The Lady Taverners with their mission to give young people, particularly those with special needs, a sporting chance.
