I'm a Celebrity star presents minibus

Star of I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here, Anne Hegerty, presented Tameside College with a new wheelchair accessible minibus last week – made possible thanks to the support of players of People’s Postcode Lottery.

Tameside College, in Ashton-Under-Lyme, caters for 87 young people with disabilities aged 12-25 with complex and moderate learning difficulties and/or disabilities. The college’s Aspirations department features a wide range of specialist facilities to meet the needs of pupils including a multi-sensory room and sensory garden.

The new nine-seat wheelchair accessible minibus is essential for enabling students access to the local community which is crucial in the development of the pupils’ social skills. The community visits will help pupils learn essential life skills for future independent living and enable them to experience the outside world.

This minibus has been made possible thanks to the support of players of the People’s Postcode Lottery (PPL). Players of PPL play with their postcodes to win cash prizes while raising money for charities and good causes across Great Britain and internationally, and their support of the Lord’s Taverners has helped provide the new minibus for Tameside College.

Sports Development Lead at Tameside College, Luke Podmore, said: "The minibus will enhance our curriculum dramatically. It will provide the colleges aspirations department with a number of opportunities that they were not able to even explore before this. From educational trips out to attending local and regional sports competitions, it will allow us to provide our learners with a number of new opportunities that will enhance their daily lives. We would like to thank the Lord’s Taverners charity once again for giving us this amazing opportunity."
