Slogging It trio plan to walk the Ashes

Australia are heading to these shores in the summer for a hotly anticipated Ashes Series and three Taverners fans are taking on a massive challenge of their own – walking 670 miles and visiting every test match venue in the series.

The hosts of the cricket and mental health podcast Slogging It and long term supporters of the Taverners, Johnno Gordon, Eugene Berger and Simon Roberts, are already in training in preparation for the challenge across the seven weeks of the Ashes series which will see them use no method of transport other than their feet to walk from Test match to Test match.

The trio are taking on the challenge to support the Taverners and the charity’s work to positively impact the lives of young people facing the challenges of inequality. It’s the Taverners work to empower young people with disabilities and from disadvantaged communities to raise their aspirations and reach their potential that inspired Johnno, Eugene and Simon to take on the Walk The Ashes Challenge.

Having seen first-hand the impact of the charity’s programmes, they know the benefits that sport can deliver.

“At Slogging It, we believe that cricket has the power to bring people together and make a difference in the world. That's why we are proud to support the Lord's Taverners and their mission,” explained the trio.

“We’re thrilled to announce our challenge across 22 days of walking across all types of terrain and no doubt in all kinds of conditions to raise awareness and funds for the life changing work of the Taverners – and we’d love as many people as possible to get involved too.

“We’re inviting all cricket enthusiasts to join us on this journey and make a difference, either in person by joining us for a bit of the walk, by donating, or both! Whether you are a seasoned walker or a newcomer, this event is an opportunity to challenge yourself, have fun, and support a fantastic cause.

“Together, we can make real difference and have a positive impact on the lives of thousands of young people.”

Slogging It will leave Lord’s Taverners London office in Holborn on 12 June and will cover the following:
