Wicketz embraces Ramadan

To celebrate Ramadan this year, we’re asking charity supporters to donate the cost of food for a day towards the delivery of Wicketz in Luton to help us engage even more young people from disadvantaged communities and leave a positive lasting legacy for the individuals and communities we continually look to bring together through cricket.

Throughout Ramadan (which takes place from 22 March-21 April this year) Muslims observe a daily fast from dawn until sunset. In unity with those of Muslim faith involved in Wicketz, we are encouraging supporters to contribute the funds you would spend on food during one day from dawn until sunset during this month, towards the Luton Wicketz project.

Wicketz in Luton is one of our most established projects and unites young people from a vast number of different backgrounds and cultures through the sport.

There are nearly 400 young people engaging with Wicketz in the town every week through six hubs based at Farley Hill, Luton Caribbean CC, Lealands High School (all girls hub), Denbigh High School, Challney and Masjid Ali community centre. Additional work is also being carried out for those aged 16 and over in local colleges, and sixth forms.

Our national Wicketz community is a very diverse one and spans across 17 projects located throughout the UK. Many participants, Development Officers, Coaches and volunteers observe Ramadan, and in addition to fundraising for the project in Luton, we also have an opportunity to raise awareness of its meaning, learn about how those of Muslim faith observe it and support them.

We've created a short film to celebrate Ramadan and highlight the unity Wicketz has with Muslim participants, coaches and communities across the UK.

You can see in the video below how they speak about the spirit of Ramadan, the importance of having inclusive activity whilst fasting and what Wicketz does to bring people from different backgrounds and cultures together through cricket.
