Westminster Abbey Garden Party
Despite the rain, over 500 guests turned out to support The Lady Taverners at the Westminster Abbey Garden Party, which was hosted by President Emeritus Judith Chalmers.
The crowd, who had braved the weather, were treated to a rare glimpse of the beautiful gardens which were the perfect backdrop for the quintessentially English party. Waiters offered canapés and drinks around the gardens and an array of stalls selling bags, jewellery, sweet treats and cheese, along with a fantastic tombola which kept guests browsing even when the clouds turned grey! Country fair style games ‘splat the rat’ and ‘pig racing!’ amused everyone and there were plenty trying to ‘guess the weight of the cake’ which looked delicious adorned with ‘25th anniversary’ decorations. There was fantastic entertainment from ‘Southern rag a jazz’, a quintet from the band of the Scots Guards and The Orpheus Trust, who were joined by Sir Richard Stillgoe. The evening drew to a close as President of The Lady Taverners, Angela Rippon, hosted the raffle and the sounds of communal singing and waving of Union Jacks filled the night air.
Our thanks go to the main sponsors for the event, Pru Health, and to all our generous supporters who helped make the event possible. Once again The Lady Taverners have helped raise more than just a smile.
