Charity Celebrity Golf Day

This event was held on 9 Oct 2013

After a beautiful summer in 2013 which went into Autumn and the forecasters were threatening Winter. But on October 9th at Sweetwoods Golf Club the sun shone on the Kent and East Sussex Lady Taverners Golf Day and the Winter warmth came through.

Some 72 golfers enjoyed a great day’s golf, great hospitality and fun all while fundraising. Thanks must go to the huge generosity of Martin Long, owner of Sweetwoods and a Director of Crystal Palace FC.

Kent County Cricket Club President, Bob “the Cat” Bevan MBE, brought a team called “All the President’s Men” which included 2005 Ashes winning wicketkeeper/bastman, Geraint Jones MBE, Kent’s Player of the Year, Darren Stevens and England and Kent spinner Min Patel. England batter Rob Key, who had broken a thumb in the last match of the season and had had to drop out, still; came and ave the lads the benefit of his advice.

Over £2,000 was taken on the raffle, swear box and auction which was a bumper amount.

Bob was joined by fellow golfer and Welsh rugby legend John Taylor to do the auction and raffle with Derek Ufton, former Charlton and England centre-half and Kent wicketkeeper, presenting the golf prizes.

We had many other happy golfers including Barry Reid, the father of the newsreader Susanna Reid who was at that time very hot on Strictly.

A huge amount of thanks goes to the Committee of Kent and East Sussex and in particular Jane and Brian Sedgwick for co-ordinating the whole Golf Day.
