The Inspirational Women's Lunch
The Lady Taverners are delighted to announce their annual Lunch this year will be with guest speakers Tracy Edwards MBE, Jennie Bond and Tricia Stewart at the wonderful Royal Garden Hotel hosted by Lady Taverners President Angela Rippon OBE.
Tracy Edwards won international fame in 1989 as the skipper of the first all female crew to sail around the world in the Whitbread Round the World Yacht Race. The boat won two legs and came second overall in her class. In 1990 Tracy was awarded Sportswoman of the Year and an MBE. She was the first woman to achieve acceptance by the British yachting community and paved the way for other women, notably Dawn Riley and Ellen MacArthur to follow.
Tracy set to consolidate her position as one of the world’s top sailors by entering Trophy Jules Verne in 1998 with the Royal SunAlliance boat, again with an allfemale crew. This yachting trophy is for the fastest circumnavigation around the world with no stopping and no outside assistance. Tracy and her crew broke seven world records during their two-year programme.
Jennie Bond is a British broadcaster and journalist who appears regularly on a wide range of television and radio programmes - from light entertainment to documentaries. As the BBC's Royal Correspondent during 14 of the most turbulent years the monarchy has endured, Jennie was at the heart of events that made headlines around the world: from the fairy-tale marriages to the adultery, the divorces and the deaths.
Since then she has become a presenter on two of the BBC's most popular shows: Cash in the Attic, and Rip Off Britain. She also presented the highly successful BBC2 series Great British Menu.
Tricia Stewart has an amazing story to tell. The movie Calendar Girls and the West End stage show are based on her inspiring story.
Hear about a group of Women’s Institute members who initially were seeking to raise £5,000 in memory of John Baker, who had died of Non-Hodgkins Lymphom but who have, to date, gone on to raise over £3.5 million for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.
Join the Lady Taverners for this unmissable lunch and hear the inspiring stories from some of the most success women in the UK.
