The Lady Taverners toast London 2012
With London currently buzzing over the excitement of the impending Olympic and Paralympic Games, what better way to celebrate than a ‘2012 Celebration Evening’ overlooking the Olympic Stadium?
The Lady Taverners and guests enjoyed a relaxed evening which started with a sparkling reception and canapés in the Stadium Suite at John Lewis, Westfield Stratford City. Guests enjoyed a talk by Baroness Margaret Ford about the 2012 legacy while gazing out over fantastic views of the Olympic Park, which looked especially impressive in the glorious July sunshine.
Guests moved to the restaurant and played an Olympic-themed ‘True or False’ game hosted by the fantastic Nicholas Parsons. Later there was an inspiring hot-seat session looking into both past and present lives of two very special athletes. Sports journalist, Sue Mott, took a break out of a busy pre-Olympic schedule to interview Olympic gold medallist, Dame Mary Peters, celebrating 40 years since she won her Pentathlon gold at Munich 1972, and soon-to-be Paralympian, Martine Wright, survivor of the London 7/7 bombings who has since been selected to represent GB in the women’s sitting volleyball squad. Both ladies had the room captivated with their stories and guests left the evening feeling in awe of their achievements and hopeful for the rest of our athletes’ performances.
The Lady Taverners send their good wishes to all participating in the London 2012 Olympic Games. With thanks to the committee for another exciting event and for helping raise more than just a smile.
