Founders Day 2012
Not even the sporting prowess of five-time Olympic gold medal winner, Sir Steve Redgrave, could prevent Chris Tarrant’s Lord’s Taverners XI succumbing to yet another defeat at the hands of Dr James Hull’s Drillers XI at Lord’s Cricket Ground last Saturday (12 May).
The Lady Taverners special 25th anniversary Founders Day event saw over 300 people descend on the Nursery Pavilion for the annual match, this year brought forward due to Lord’s being used as a venue for the Olympic archery and subsequent international cricket schedule reshuffle.
Play was moved to the MCC Indoor School due to a waterlogged Nursery Ground but the change in venue didn’t suit the Taverners XI’s style of play as the Drillers XI put on a strong batting performance before their bowlers finished off Chris Tarrant’s side to claim another victory.
On the plus side Taverners favourite, Lorraine Chase, won the (wo)man of the match award, while the assembled guests did not let rain interrupt play in a fundraising sense, helping to raise a superb £37,000 on the day. A further £5,000 was raised for the minibus appeal.
