Sticky Wicket Six-a-Side Tournament
Venue: Regents Park
Even this summer's appalling weather did not deter the hardy Event & Exhibition Industry from congregating in their hundreds to support this year's Sticky Wicket on the 21st June, 2012 in Regent's Park.
After the 16 teams keenly battled in their groups, the 4 teams that made it through to the semi finals were CloserStill Media, i2i Events, EC&O and Reed Exhibitions.
Reed Exhibitions and i2i Events then both won their semi finals, with Reed Exhibitions winning a closely fought final and lifting the Sticky Wicket Trophy. The winning team was Captained by Paul Robin, Lord’s Taverners Regional Chairman, and the final was Umpired by John Price and Struan Rodger.
The event raised an amazing £35,000 for the Lord's Taverners which will go to help to give disabled and underprivileged children a sporting chance. The committee and the Lord's Taverners would like to thank all the teams, sponsors and supporters who joined us on the day, and without who this annual event would not be able to take place. Thank you also to Sir Jeremy Hanley, whose Presidents Prize of House of Lord’s Cufflinks for the first 10 sixes went down well as always.
During the day Chris Cowdrey (President of the Lord's Taverners) and players from Middlesex CCC with John Price and Jonnie Irwin officially handed over a specially adapted minibus in the name of Sticky Wicket to the Royal National College for the Blind in Hereford.
After the cricket was done, everyone retired to the Edinboro Castle in Camden where the traditional if's, buts, should have beens were discussed over a 'few' drinks. A great time was had by all and we all look forward to doing it again in 2013.
