Olympic Dinner at Pickhurst

7th Oct 2012
Olympic Dinner at Pickhurst

On 6 October we held a celebratory Olympic Dinner at Pickhurst in Chiddingfold, the home of Surrey committee treasurer Andrew Law.

Sir Richard Stilgoe introduced three of our Olympians, Greg Rutherford the long jump Gold medallist, Dan Greaves our Paralympic Silver medallist and Greg Searle who won a Bronze medal in the rowing eight.

All spoke from the heart telling their own personal stories which were fascinating as well as incredibly moving, they made us laugh, they made us weep and they took great efforts to join in the festivities; having their photographs taken by everyone and signing commemorative menus until the ink ran out.

Richard Stilgoe compéred the evening with aplomb, entertaining the guests with his ability to seemingly conjured music and lyrics from thin air.  His incredibly talented son Joe concluded the evening with a virtuoso piano performance which had people cheering for encore after encore.

Sadly it did have to end.

Our thanks also go to Chris Cowdrey who sadly could not attend the event due to illness, he has since recovered and we wish him well. Lastly we’d like to thank Felicity Bench from HWM Aston Martin for providing a great display of vehicles and for organising the sponsorship.
