Jean Ratcliffe carries the Paralympic Flame

On 28th August I was lucky enough to go along to Stoke Mandeville to see the lighting of the Paralympic Flame and the start of the 24 hour relay of torchbearers ending with the lighting of the Flame.  Jean Ratcliff was one of those carrying the Flame.  She was one of five in her group and in her group was Eva Loeffler who is the daughter of Sir Ludwig Guttman the founder of the Paralympic movement that started at Stoke Mandeville.  It was a great evening and I was proud to be part of it and to see Jean - one of our Chiltern Ladies - rewarded for her tireless work raising over £1 million for the Disability Sports Appeal. - Jane Wilding
