Strauss leading from the front
With just under a month remaining until the Virgin London Marathon our heroic runners need your support.
This year's team, once again skippered by Robert Ditcham, boasts one of the most successful Test captains England has ever seen.
Andrew Strauss and his wife, Ruth, are taking on the mammoth challenge for the first time and the former England captain has left a quick note to Taverners supporters in the lead up to the big day:
As you probably know by now, my wife, Ruth, and I are running the 2013 Virgin London Marathon to raise money for The Lord's Taverners.
Training has been tough (particularly in the snow) but we are both really excited about taking on such a challenge and delighted to be part of the Taverners team running for such a great cause.
Ruth and I have already run over 430 miles during our training so far. This Sunday marks four weeks to go until the big day, in which time we’ll clock up a further 125 miles. By the time we cross the finish line, we will have run over 600 miles in total!
I’m trying not to get too competitive but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have one eye on Andy Flower’s finish time and fundraising total from last year’s race.
Ruth and I are honoured by the great support we have received from fellow Taverners so far; it has been a real boost. If you haven’t donated, please visit our fundraising page.
We are doing our best to help the team reach its £100,000 fundraising target so please help spread the word to anyone you think might want to support our efforts. Together we will be able to give even more young people the 'sporting chance' they deserve.
Thank you again for your kind support!
