East Kent Update Summer 2012
Situated high above the burgeoning development of the St Lawrence Ground on a crisp December day, the scene was set for a fabulous luncheon with celebrities, cricketers, Taverners and guests. It didn’t disappoint!
After guided tours of the grounds and a champagne reception, we were called to lunch by our MC for the day, Clive Emson. After the welcome, and grace by Jo Rice, we started in with the first course. This was accompanied by table magic from the very clever Tom London, who bedazzled us all with his sleight of hand.
After the meal Wendy Eadsforth (Chief Executive, The Royal School for deaf Children, Margate) spoke warmly of how The Lord’s Taverners had made a huge impact on the lives of the children at the school by the donation of two minibuses. It was a lovely reminder of why we were all there.
Chris Tarrant OBE regaled us with some very funny tales of his experiences from “Who Wants to be a Millionaire” before launching into the auction with a gusto that was so infectious the bidding was fast and furious. Finally, we were entertained by Shaun Williamson with a hilarious stand-up routine.
The day was a great success, both in terms of money raised and enjoyment had. It was our first event with Kent CCC under the Partnership agreement; everything went like clockwork. A huge amount of thanks must go to them, as well as to Chris Tarrant, Shaun Williamson and the East Kent committee.
