Lady Taverners Wales region host their first inter-school sports day

Four special schools from Cardiff competed in The Lady Taverners first inter-school sports day at Cardiff Metropolitan University on 7 June 2014. Eighty-five children from Meadowbank, Ty Gwyn, Riverbank and The Hollies competed in wheelchair races, bucket and bean bag sprints, javelin, long jump, table tennis, skittles and egg and spoon races. Children also enjoyed face painting, provided by Acorns Nurseries.

The day also saw the launch of table cricket in the area and two Glamorgan cricketers came along to help the children learn this version of the game.

The day concluded with a medal ceremony and a lap of honour for all the children with Taffy the Tiger, Disability Cardiff’s mascot.

This is the first event that we have run of this kind and are thrilled with its success - we hope to make even bigger next year with even more schools. It was particularly special as it enabled us to cement our links with some schools we help in south Wales. The whole event would not have been possible without the help of our sponsors - Primary Times, Hollybush Properties and Shelly Proctor. We have also had excellent support from Disability Cardiff and are grateful for the huge enthusiasm shown by the teachers at the four schools.
