Lord's Taverners teams up with England's Barmy Army

Lord’s Taverners, the UK’s leading youth cricket and disability sports charity, is pleased to announce an exciting new partnership with England cricket supporters’ club, the Barmy Army, to help raise funds for the charity in 2015. The Barmy Army has pledged to raise £100,000 for the Lord’s Taverners in 2015.

To reach this goal, the Barmy Army will be undertaking its inaugural tour of England and Wales. The Barmy Army Tour, known as ‘BAT2015’, will consist of 18 cricket matches and 18 golf days; one of each in the 18 First Class cricketing counties. With the help of celebrity ambassadors such as former England cricketer Matthew Hoggard, the collaboration will not only raise funds but also build awareness of the Lord’s Taverners among recreational cricketers and cricket fans across the UK. Insurance Group, Miles Smith Limited, has kindly agreed to sponsor BAT2015.

Paul Burnham, Managing Director and co-founder of the Barmy Army, said: “We are delighted to be supporting the Lord’s Taverners, particularly during an Ashes summer and the Barmy Army’s 20th anniversary year. We have organised BAT2015 around England’s international fixtures this summer so as many cricket fans as possible can get involved in the Tour and hear about the charity’s work. We have a long, successful history of charity fundraising on our overseas tours and we are looking forward to raising awareness and a minimum of £100,000 for the Lord’s Taverners this summer.”

As well as fundraising events, the Barmy Army will be creating an official 2015 Lord’s Taverners summer tour t-shirt and will be fundraising at England games where possible. The partnership will allow the Lord’s Taverners to speak to a new audience of supporters who are all avid cricket fans. The charity, which created over 8 million ‘sporting chances’ in 2014, is also set to join all cricket fans at this year’s Cricket United day at the Kia Oval on Saturday 22 August.

Lord’s Taverners CEO, Paul Robin, speaking on the partnership, said: “The Lord’s Taverners has an exciting year ahead, and this partnership with the Barmy Army will allow us to inform new supporters about the great work the charity does. The Barmy Army has become a globally recognised organisation in the cricket world, famous for the superb support they give to the England team. We are very grateful for their backing, and look forward to a long and prosperous partnership over the season ahead.”
