Lord’s Taverners Wales prepares to tee off for annual memorial golf day
Wales’ biggest sporting charity has announced it will once again return to the stunning Royal Porthcawl Golf Club for its annual Ian Spratling Memorial Golf Day.
This year’s hugely anticipated event will take place on Thursday 24 September and will see teams of varying handicaps from across South Wales compete for the charity trophy.
The event is held every year in memory of ex-Chairman of the Lord’s Taverners Wales, Ian Spratling, who passed away in 2001, and raises thousands of pounds for disabled and disadvantaged children. During the day, chairman Ed Meggitt will be presenting a local school with a specially adapted minibus that the Lord’s Taverners Wales has funded.
Mr Meggitt said: “The golf day has grown and grown since we launched it, and every year seems to top the last. I’m privileged to be able to present another Lord’s Taverners minibus to a deserving school – it really reminds everyone on the day why we’re there and where the money raised at our events goes.”
The golf day will start with coffee and bacon rolls at 12pm before a 1pm shotgun start. After 18 holes, those attending will be treated to a three course dinner and a Q&A from cricket legend Mike Gatting.
