Yorkshire at the double - Men's and Women's teams receive their trophies from HRH the Duke of Edinburgh

LV= County Championship winners for the second year running, Yorkshire CCC and their counterparts Yorkshire Women, who won the Royal London Women’s One-Day Cup, attended Buckingham Palace today to receive their trophies from HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip, who is Patron and ‘Twelfth Man’ of the Lord’s Taverners - the UK’s leading youth cricket and disability sports charity.

The Lord’s Taverners ECB Trophy is the official name of the silverware awarded to the winners of the men’s County Championship, with the women’s champions receiving the Lady Taverners ECB Trophy. The awards were gratefully received by the Yorkshire men’s captain Andrew Gale, and Lauren Winfield, captain of the women’s side.

Yorkshire captain Andrew Gale said: “It’s been incredibly satisfying backing up last year’s win with another this time around. We are blessed at the present time with the quality of cricketers we are bringing through, and winning the Championship again this year shows the intent we have to add a few more over the coming years. Thanks very much to the Lord’s Taverners for hosting us once again in this magnificent venue.”

This was the 34th time the county has won the men’s Championship, by far the most wins of any county in cricketing history. The women’s victory saw them crowned champions for the sixth time, putting them level with Kent and Surrey as the most successful teams in the competition to date – it started in 1997.

Yorkshire women’s captain, Lauren Winfield commented: “We are thrilled to have won the One-Day Cup this year. It is testament to the hard work and dedication of all those who have been involved. The men’s side have been incredibly successful recently, and it’s great to emulate them by winning ourselves. Cricket in Yorkshire is very strong currently, with great depth in both the men’s and women’s game, and we hope that what we have achieved will inspire young people across our county and beyond to take up the game.”

Paul Robin, Chief Executive of The Lord’s Taverners, stated: “We are delighted to once again be organising the men’s and women’s county championship trophy presentations at Buckingham Palace. It’s a great tradition for HRH The Duke of Edinburgh to present the Lord’s Taverners Trophies and a wonderful way to thank the county game which has, once again, been so supportive of the charity last season. It will be a very special day for all at Yorkshire CCC.”
