Medway Big Ride to help fund new Lord’s Taverners minibus for Bradfields Academy

The Lord’s Taverners have teamed up with Medway Sport to stage a celebrity charity bike ride across the Kent countryside on Sunday 19 June to help fund a new specially adapted minibus for Bradfields Academy (Chatham).

Join former England and Kent cricketer Geraint Jones and TV presenter Jonnie Irwin as they lead the 15-mile ride, which is open to adults and children with all proceeds going to fund a new minibus for the pupils with special educational needs and disabilities at the school in Chatham, Kent.

The celebrity ride, in association with the Lord’s Taverners who enhance the lives of disadvantaged and disabled young people through sport and recreation, starts at Medway Park at 11am and will finish back at the park during the afternoon of the Big Ride event being organised by Medway Council. The entry fee, which will be collected on the day, is £10 for adults and free for kids (under 16) whom must be accompanied by an adult. Proceeds from the ride go directly to the charity. Every participant will receive a souvenir Medway Big Ride t-shirt.

Bradfields Academy is an innovative and forward-looking Academy that provides education for students who have complex learning disabilities and difficulties including speech, language, emotional, sensory, physical and autistic spectrum disabilities.

Lesley Osborne, Business Manager at Bradfields Academy, said pupils and staff were excited at the prospect of a new iconic Lord’s Taverners minibus being delivered. “It will have a huge and very positive impact on the experiences our students will be able to enjoy,” she explained. “Our staff and students are very grateful to be given this opportunity.”

Lord’s Taverners Head of Corporate Fundraising, Perry Norton, said: “We are delighted to be teaming up with Medway Sport for this amazing day. It’s even more exciting that a local school will be benefitting from the people of Medway’s fundraising and pedalling efforts. We’d like to thank everyone in advance for their support.”
