Lord’s Taverners shortlisted for Charity Times Award
The Lord’s Taverners are exceptionally pleased to report we have been shortlisted for a Charity Times Award. The Lord’s Taverners have been shortlisted in the category ‘Charity of the Year with an Income of £5 million to £10 million’ and the awards ceremony will take place on October 4 2017 at Park Plaza Westminster Bridge, London.
This comes off the back of a successful year for the charity which has seen a significant expansion of our cricket programmes. The Wicketz programme has been able to announce planned expansions into Manchester and Glasgow as part of a plan to take the programme into 11 different highly deprived areas in the UK. This year’s table cricket tournament, which culminated in an exciting finals day at Lords saw over 300 schools compete in the early rounds, before a final 9 made it to the showpiece event held in the Nursery Pavilion.
It is not however, just on the cricket field where the Lord’s Taverners have been making a huge impact. Programmes such as wheelchair basketball have continued to thrive, whilst Lord’s Taverners minibuses are still an ever present on the road.
The Lord's Taverners are the UK's leading youth cricket and disability sports charity, founded in 1950 at the Tavern pub at Lord's Cricket Ground. Supporting some of the most marginalised and at risk young people in the UK, the charity works to enhance lives through sport and recreation, giving young people a 'sporting chance.'
