Junior League final to be streamed live on BBC
Junior wheelchair basketball teams Sheffield Steelers and Coventry Wheelchair Basketball Academy (CWBA) are set to battle it out in the final of the Lord's Taverners Junior League at the English Institute of Sport (EIS) in Sheffield, this Saturday (26 May).
The two teams booked their places in the final after coming 1st and 2nd in the Elite 8s. Under a new format introduced for this year's Junior League, eight teams out of the 20 that enter the tournament nationally qualified for the Elite 8s with Sheffield Steelers and CWBA earning the right to compete at the national final.
The national final has been given an additional boost with the news that it will be live-streamed by the BBC for the first time. The action at the EIS, the new home of wheelchair basketball, will be freely available on BBC Sport Online, allowing for a far greater number of people to watch and engage with the sport.
Lisa Pearce, CEO of British Wheelchair Basketball, commented: "This live streaming agreement will prove both a critical and historic moment for British Wheelchair Basketball. Our sport has proved to be hugely popular with Paralympic audiences at both London 2012 and Rio 2016.
It is an incredibly exciting time for our sport as we fulfil our ambition to grow its reach and impact."
