Saracens XI defeat Taverners XI in close match

The Lord’s Taverners Cricket XI fell to a 19-run defeat against Saracens on Sunday despite a century from Tom Billings, brother of cricket ambassador and Kent and England international Sam Billings.

Billings hit 116 in the run chase as the Taverners team which included Rob Andrew, Gus Mackay, Steve Kirby, Charl Willoughby, Toby Tarrant and Lloyd Scott among others, reached 223 in 25 overs but it wasn’t enough to match 242 set by the Saracens team that included former players and current coaches including Alistair Hargreaves, Kelly Brown and Dan Vickers.

The knock from Billings didn’t come without incident as, hitting a six off the bowling of former Scotland rugby captain Brown, the ball flew through the back of the windscreen of a car that was parked a bit too close to the boundary!

The Taverners XI are next in action on Thursday (tomorrow) when they face a Rob Andrew XI at Hove.
