Tilney Group Set to Raise Over £2,000 For Lord’s Taverners Charity
A team of Tilney Group employees have completed a mammoth a 60-mile duathlon challenge all in aid of the UK’s leading youth cricket and disability sports charity the Lord’s Taverners.
The challenge saw Tilney Group staff running or cycling between their Cambridge and Chelmsford offices on 19 October to help raise £2,000 towards the funding of sports wheelchairs for individuals and teams in Essex.
Funding from the duathlon will help the charity to donate a new sports wheelchair to Southend based wheelchair basketball star, Freya Levy, who has already represented the country in three different sports. But her current wheelchair is broken beyond repair and she needs a new one to train and compete at the highest level in both wheelchair rugby and wheelchair basketball.
She said: “Without sport I don’t know what I would be doing today, it enabled me to go to university and compete for my country in three different sports at the age of 22! Before sport I was Freya in the wheelchair, when I play, I’m just Freya."
Tilney Group Senior Associate, Elaine Semmence, added: “It was great to be able to support Freya Levy to raise funds for her much needed sports wheelchair. Freya joined us part way through our duathlon and helped us truly understand why we were doing what we did.
“We also had support from Jo Hicks (Lord’s Taverners Regional Development Executive) for the whole day and she ensured we were all fed and watered. Her encouragement throughout the day kept us going.
“It was a fantastic challenge and great team spirit form everyone at Tilney. We are so pleased to have raised the amount we did.”
The Lord’s Taverners is the UK’s leading youth cricket and disability sports charity, dedicated to giving disadvantaged and disabled young people a sporting chance.
