Dogs night with no dogs!
Western Region put on a 'night at the dogs' at Swindon greyhound stadium which was a great success despite there being no dogs!
140 Taverners and guests arrived for an evening of greyhound racing and dinner on a really cold night in February only to discover that a frozen track made it unsafe for the dogs to run. Dinner had by now started and there was a great atmosphere so rather than cancel everyone got on enjoying themselves as only Taverners can do! We were all able to continue betting as there was racing from Wimbledon on the monitors and of course the bar was open!
Everyone entered into the spirit and a good time was had by all. The evening raised in excess of £2,000 for our charity, not a bad result for a night that could have been cancelled.
The organiser of this event, Geoff Hedges, will be raising more funds for the charity when he follows up last year’s John O’Groats to Lands End walk with a walk from London to Paris there will be a ‘just giving’ site for donations.
